What an amazing holiday club we have just had!

We had a huge amount of fun in October Half Term 2024, at our Starship Discovery Holiday Club. It was amazing to be around all the brilliant children and seeing them working together, encouraging each other and just having fun!

We had on average of 65 children attending our sessions each day, with 5 main crafts – Cooking, Junk Modelling (sorry, not sorry parents…😁), DIY photo frame, Rocket Cup Launcher and Moon Buggies. Over 70 packed lunches were made and enjoyed each day as well as fruit snacks and squash for everyone. We had over 40 volunteers supporting holiday club from our Church this year, who are all amazing. It’s not always an easy job, but it is amazing and loads of fun!

The children also enjoyed another year of the classic Watt Family sketches and the return of Lucy and Bert, our resident puppets. The children also got involved in the Bible stories we were looking at each day, as we learnt who Simon Peter was and seeing that Jesus is the light of the world. Say Simon or Peter and see if they respond with the other (a holiday club challenge).

We had a huge amount of stamper points given out throughout the week with not one, but two double points days a holiday club this year, with each year group having a winner! Points had been given out to some amazing singing, dancing (following actions), being kind, helping others, tiding their crafts area, answering questions correctly, getting involved, etc. The winners were so closely matched this year in some cases with only one point in it!

This year it cost approximately £33 per child to attend for the week of holiday club. We are very grateful to be supported by the Wellington Hotel this year, who have raised a huge amount of money for us to be able to help keep the sessions running for free! So please do pop in and have a glass of Pepsi Max (other other refreshing beverage of your choice) and a meal and whisper a big thank you to them for their ongoing support. Those funds paid for the majority of holiday club.
We were also fortunate enough to be awarded a grant towards holiday club too from the Chalk Cliff Trust, which is just amazing, this has helped support families who really needed it!

We are passionate about keeping holiday club running for free and will try to do this as much as we can. Thank you to you also for the fantastic donations you have made towards the cost holiday club, it is truly appreciated.
